ADDUCTOR STRAIN

Classic Presentationgroin_strain.gif

The patient is usually an athlete who is involved in kicking, sprinting, water skiing, or jumping (high jumps or hurdles).  He/She reports a sudden pulling sensation in the groin that was incapacitating.

Cause

The cause of the adductor strain is sudden contraction of the adductors from a stretched position of hip abduction (moving the leg away from the body) or flexion.  The most common site is at the myofascial junction of the adductor magnus.
