OSGOOD-SCHLATTER DISEASE

Classic Presentationosgood_schlatter_disease.jpg

The patient is often a young athlete complaining of pain and swelling at the tibial tuberosity (prominence just below the knee on the shin).

Cause

The tibial tuberosity is susceptible to repetitive stresses.  When adolescents are performing demanding activities such as running and jumping, the tuberosity may undergo an inflammatory reaction.  It is rare for the tendon to avulse tuberosity.
