Whiplash is an injury to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue of the neck that occurs when the head is suddenly jerked in any direction.  Whiplash is caused by anything that causes your head to suddenly move in any direction.  The most common cause of whiplash is an automobile accident, but it has been known to occur during contact sports.
