POSTERIOR IMPINGEMENT SYNDROME

Classic Presentationposterior_impingement_syndrome.jpg

The patient is usually an athlete complaining of sharp posterior elbow pain, especially on quick extension of the elbow.  There may be associated complaints of popping or clicking with extension or an occasional complaint of locking.

Cause

Repetitive extension leads to compression on the back side of the elbow, which may simply cause inflammation or progress to degeneration and the production of bone spurs.
