tension headachesTension headaches are the most common type of headache experienced by Americans today. 95% of the U.S. population will have at least one episode of tension headache in their lifetime. Tension headaches are generally caused by muscle tightness in your neck just below the base of your skull, your shoulders and your upper back. This tightness is often times the result of bad posture, and other times it occurs due to some sort of trauma (like a car accident). More than 90% of tension headaches occur on both sides of the head. The pain is usually dull and gradually builds throughout the day initiating at the base of the skull and wrapping around into the temporal region.
